The Californias began here.
In 1697 Jesuit Juan María de Salvatierra founded Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó. For more than a century this small bay was the capital of both Californias. That is not brochure copy. It is why the town still feels like a place, not a resort annex.
Today Loreto is a Pueblo Mágico of about 16,000 people on Bahía de Loreto — five desert islands, sea lions, blue whales in winter, and water clear enough to kayak to Isla Coronado before lunch. Direct flights from the US land at LTO, twenty minutes from the malecón.

A UNESCO sea in the backyard
Five islands — Carmen, Danzante, Coronado, Monserrat, Catalana — sit in a protected marine park. Blue whales pass in late winter. Sea lions haul out on Coronado. This is not a man-made lagoon. It is the Sea of Cortez Steinbeck wrote about, still working.
A real Mexican town
The mission, the plaza, the malecón, taco stands that do not need a publicist. You live among families who have been here for generations. That is the opposite of a gated golf enclave that empties in September.
Puerto Escondido
A hidden fjord of a marina south of town. Yachts, private docks, Waicuri waterfront lots, and the kind of sunset that makes people cancel their return flight. If the boat is the point of buying in Baja, this is the harbor.
Golf without the circus
Mexico’s only TPC course hangs over the sea at Danzante Bay, next to Villa del Palmar. Nopoló and the Villages of Loreto Bay give you courtyard homes, a beach club, and a planned village that still sits five minutes from a real grocery store.
You can actually fly here
Seasonal and year-round flights from Los Angeles, Phoenix and other US cities, plus Mexico City. The airport is a 15–20 minute drive from centro. No five-hour transfer from Cabo unless you want one.
Prices still in the first chapter
Homes, condos and land here still price like a town that has not been fully discovered by the second wave. New inventory is opening at Danzante Bay, Nopolo Hills and Waicuri — the window is open, it will not stay this quiet.
