You can live here in August. There is a Walmart and a public market. There is a ferry to the mainland. That is the difference between a vacation and a life.
The bay is the amenity
Five kilometers of promenade. A protected beach that still looks like a postcard. A UNESCO island a panga ride away. You do not need a resort bracelet.
Luxury exists. It did not eat the town.
A 250-slip marina and a Gary Player course sit ten minutes from downtown. Pedregal looks at the city from the hill. The malecón is still a malecón.

The water

The Sea of Cortez is not a backdrop. It is the reason the capital is still pleasant. Calm water in the bay, a desert island twenty minutes out, and a winter when the big animals come through.
Balandra is protected. El Tecolote is the louder beach with the lighthouse. The cave above town looks down on the same water you swim in.

Shallow, turquoise, the mushroom rock. Twenty-five minutes north. The beach people fly in to photograph, then stay for the city behind it.
Espíritu Santo
UNESCO since 2005, national park since 2007. Sea lions at Los Islotes. A day trip that still feels like you left the country.
The season
Whale sharks in the bay, roughly October to April. Gray whales on this coast in winter. We do not sell encounters. We sell a house you come home to after one.
El Mogote Beach
The other shore
El Mogote is the sand you see from the malecón.
A thin peninsula across the bay. Two waters, empty dunes, almost no streetlights. The city is ten minutes by boat and a world away. This is still La Paz.
